FPing은 Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) echo request를 사용하여 대상 호스트가 응답하는지 확인하는 ping과 유사한 프로그램입니다. FPing은 명령줄에서 임의 개수의 대상을 지정하거나 ping할 대상 목록이 담긴 파일을 지정할 수 있다는 점에서 ping과 다릅니다. 하나의 대상에 시간 초과되거나 응답할 때까지 ping을 보내는 대신, FPing은 ping 패킷을 보낸 후 라운드 로빈 방식으로 다음 대상으로 이동합니다. 기본 모드에서는 대상이 응답하면 기록되고 확인할 대상 목록에서 제거됩니다. 대상이 일정 시간 제한 또는 재시도 제한 내에 응답하지 않으면 도달 불가로 지정됩니다. FPing은 대상에 지정된 횟수의 ping을 보내거나 무한 반복(ping과 같이)하는 것도 지원합니다. ping과 달리 FPing은 스크립트에서 사용하도록 고안되었습니다. 출력은 쉽게 파싱할 수 있도록 설계되었습니다.
