passt implementiert eine Übersetzungsschicht zwischen einer Layer-2-Netzwerkschnittstelle und nativen Layer-4-Sockets (TCP, UDP, ICMP/ICMPv6 echo) auf einem Host. Es erfordert keine Capabilities oder Privilegien und kann als einfacher Ersatz für Slirp verwendet werden. pasta (dieselbe Binärdatei wie passt, anderer Befehl) bietet gleichwertige Funktionalität für Netzwerk-Namespaces: Verkehr wird über eine tap-Schnittstelle innerhalb des Namespaces weitergeleitet, ohne dass weitere Schnittstellen auf dem Host erstellt werden müssen, weshalb keine Capabilities oder Privilegien erforderlich sind.
