Strumento di ottimizzazione DWARF e rimozione dei duplicati

dwz ottimizza le informazioni di debug DWARF contenute nelle librerie condivise e negli eseguibili ELF per ridurne le dimensioni, sostituendo la rappresentazione delle informazioni DWARF con una rappresentazione equivalente più piccola dove possibile, e riducendo la quantità di duplicazione mediante tecniche dall'appendice E dello standard DWARF — creando unità di compilazione (CU) DW_TAG_partial_unit per le informazioni duplicate e usando DW_TAG_imported_unit per importarle in ciascuna CU che ne ha bisogno. Lo strumento gestisce sezioni di debug in formato DWARF a 32 bit delle versioni 2, 3 e 4 e le estensioni GNU su di esse, sebbene l'uso di DWARF 4 o, nel peggiore dei casi, DWARF 3 sia fortemente raccomandato. Quando non si usa l'opzione -m (modalità multifile), è sufficiente uno snapshot GDB CVS (presto 7.5); usando l'opzione -m, è necessario GDB da un branch git http://sources.redhat.com/git/?p=archer.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/archer-tromey-dwz-multifile .
