Zutils ist eine Sammlung von Dienstprogrammen, die mit jeder Kombination aus komprimierten und unkomprimierten Dateien transparent umgehen können. Wenn eine gegebene Datei, einschließlich der Standardeingabe, komprimiert ist, wird ihr dekomprimierter Inhalt verwendet. Komprimierte Dateien werden on the fly dekomprimiert; es werden keine temporären Dateien erstellt. Diese Dienstprogramme sind keine Wrapper-Skripte, sondern sicherere und effizientere C++-Programme.
