Utilità DWARF

dwarves è un insieme di strumenti che usano le informazioni di debug DWARF inserite nei binari ELF da compilatori come GCC, usate da debugger ben noti come GDB, e da altri più recenti come systemtap. Le utilità della suite dwarves includono pahole, che può essere usata per trovare buchi di allineamento in struct e classi in linguaggi come C, C++, ma non limitati a questi. Estrae anche altre informazioni come l'allineamento della cacheline della CPU, aiutando a impacchettare quelle strutture per ottenere più hit di cache. Uno strumento simile a diff, codiff, può essere usato per confrontare gli effetti che i cambiamenti nel codice sorgente generano sui binari risultanti. Un altro strumento è pfunct, che può essere usato per trovare ogni sorta di informazioni sulle funzioni, gli inline, le decisioni prese dal compilatore sull'inlining, ecc.
