Una biblioteca de notificación de eventos

La API de libevent proporciona un mecanismo para ejecutar una función de devolución de llamada cuando ocurre un evento específico en un descriptor de archivo o después de que se haya alcanzado un tiempo de espera. Además, libevent también admite devoluciones de llamada debido a señales o tiempos de espera periódicos. Actualmente, libevent admite /dev/poll, kqueue(2), event ports, POSIX select(2), Windows select(), poll(2) y epoll(4). Libevent proporciona además un marco sofisticado para E/S de red con búfer, con soporte para sockets, filtros, limitación de velocidad, SSL, transmisión de archivos de copia cero e IOCP. Libevent incluye soporte para varios protocolos útiles, incluidos DNS, HTTP y un marco RPC mínimo. Este paquete contiene las bibliotecas compartidas de libevent.
