Daemon do Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol (RFC 2661)

xl2tpd é uma implementação do Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol (RFC 2661). L2TP permite encapsular PPP sobre UDP. Alguns ISPs usam L2TP para encapsular sessões de utilizador de servidores de acesso (bancos de modems, DSLAMs ADSL) para servidores PPP de back-end. Outra aplicação importante são as Redes Privadas Virtuais em que o protocolo IPsec é usado para proteger a ligação L2TP (L2TP/IPsec, RFC 3193). O protocolo L2TP/IPsec é usado principalmente por clientes Windows e Mac OS X. No Linux, xl2tpd pode ser usado em combinação com implementações IPsec como Openswan. Ficheiros de configuração de exemplo para tal configuração estão incluídos neste RPM. xl2tpd funciona abrindo um pseudo-tty para comunicar com o pppd. Executa completamente em espaço de utilizador, mas suporta L2TP em modo kernel. xl2tpd suporta o seguimento de referências SA IPsec para permitir IPs internas NATeadas sobrepostas de diferentes clientes (p.ex. todos os clientes que se ligam a partir do seu IP interno linksys 192.168.1.101), bem como múltiplos clientes atrás do mesmo router NAT. xl2tpd suporta as operações em modo kernel pppol2tp em 2.6.23 ou superior, ou via um patch em contrib para kernels 2.4.x. Xl2tpd baseia-se no L2TP 0.69 de Jeff McAdams <jeffm@iglou.com> Foi mantido de facto por Jacco de Leeuw <jacco2@dds.nl> em 2002 e 2003.
