Virtual Distributed Ethernet

VDE es una red virtual que puede desplegarse sobre un conjunto de ordenadores físicos a través de Internet VDE conecta entre sí: (1) equipos reales GNU-linux (tuntap) (2) máquinas virtuales: UML-User Mode Linux, qemu, bochs, MPS. VDE puede usarse: (i) para crear un túnel de propósito general (cualquier protocolo que funcione sobre Ethernet puede introducirse en el túnel) (ii) para conectar un conjunto de máquinas virtuales a Internet sin necesidad de acceso libre a tuntap (iii) para soportar movilidad: un VDE puede permanecer interconectado a pesar del cambio de cables virtuales, es decir, el cambio de direcciones IP e interfaces en el mundo real
