LFTP 是可靠、類似 shell 的命令列 FTP 用戶端。它可自動重試操作並自動執行 reget。它可在背景同時進行多個傳輸。使用 LFTP，您可在背景開始傳輸，並繼續瀏覽該 FTP 站點或另一個站點。這一切都在單一行程中完成。若您結束程式或關閉數據機連線，背景工作會以 nohup 模式完成。LFTP 的功能包括 reput、mirror 與反向 mirror。自 2.0 版起，也支援 HTTP 協定。其他功能包括 IPV6 支援、依上下文的補全、輸出重新導向至檔案或管線、FTP 與 HTTP 代理支援、針對每個連線以及所有連線總和的傳輸速率節流、工作佇列、在指定時間執行工作、FTP 協定中的 opie 與 skey 支援、HTTP 與 FTP 的 SSL，以及 FXP 傳輸。
