About 6tunnel

TCP proxy for non-IPv6 applications

This project links 13 native package records across 10 recorded operating-system releases. Compare the retained versions and architectures below, then open the package for your own release.

These are catalog observations, not a guarantee of installation, compatibility, or upstream support.

What 6tunnel does

6tunnel forwards TCP connections between IPv4 and IPv6 endpoints. It is useful when an application and its destination cannot directly use the same address family. It is a TCP forwarder, not a replacement for a general-purpose VPN or an encrypted transport.

Planning a forwarding connection

Choose the local listening address and port, then the remote hostname and port. Check which address family the application uses and which one is reachable at the destination. The upstream manual documents the binding options; restrict access to the local listener when the forwarder should serve only local applications.

Comparing distribution packages

The catalog links Debian, Fedora, Alpine, and openSUSE records here without combining their package histories. Select your operating-system release, check the recorded version and architecture, then open that package for dependency, file, and repository details. Package presence does not prove that a remote endpoint is reachable.

Source-reported description

The fullest retained description is shown with its source. Distribution packaging descriptions may include downstream details.

6tunnel allows using services provided by IPv6 hosts with IPv4-only applications and vice versa. It can bind to any of the system's IPv4 or IPv6 addresses and forward all data to IPv4 or IPv6 hosts. It can be used, for example, as an IPv6-capable IRC proxy.

Mapping provenance

Only source-backed identity signals create public cross-OS links. A reviewer can later approve or dispute an inferred relationship without rewriting native package history.
