EPS mit LaTeX/dvips und pdfLaTeX nutzbar machen

Obwohl pdfLaTeX eine Reihe netter Funktionen bietet, besteht sein hauptsächlicher Nachteil gegenüber dem Standard-LaTeX+dvips darin, dass es gewöhnliche Encapsulated-PostScript-(EPS)-Dateien nicht lesen kann – dem gängigsten Grafikformat in der LaTeX-Welt. Purifyeps wandelt EPS-Dateien in eine ‚gereinigte‘ Form um, die sowohl von LaTeX+dvips als auch von pdfLaTeX gelesen werden kann. Der Trick liegt darin, dass die Standard-Grafikpakete von LaTeX2e von MetaPost erzeugtes EPS direkt parsen können. Daher muss purifyeps nur eine beliebige EPS-Datei in dasselbe stilisierte Format umwandeln, das MetaPost ausgibt.
