A flaw was found in Traefik. A low-privileged tenant with HTTPRoute creation permissions in Traefik's Kubernetes Gateway API provider can bypass security settings. This allows the tenant to expose the REST provider handler and gain live dynamic configuration write access to Traefik. This vulnerability enables unauthorized reconfiguration of routers and services, potentially leading to privilege escalation within the system. traefik: Traefik: Privilege escalation via Kubernetes Gateway API provider configuration bypass Red Hat's CVSS 3.1 score (8.3, AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:H) matches the CVSS 3.1 vector independently published by the reporting CNA (GitHub Security Advisories, GHSA-96qj-4jj5-wcjc), which also assesses Scope:Unchanged with Confidentiality:Low. The CNA's own CVSS 4.0 base score for this issue is 6.4 (Medium): CVSS:4.0/AV:N/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:N/SC:L/SI:H/SA:H. NIST's CVSS 3.1 score of 9.9 (Scope:Changed, Confidentiality:High) is a National Vulnerability Database enrichment re-derivation and is not the score assigned by the reporting CNA. Exploitation requires an actor who already holds HTTPRoute create/update permission within an allowed tenant namespace of a shared Traefik Gateway API deployment (reflected in PR:L, not an anonymous or unauthenticated attacker), and additionally requires the REST provider to be enabled on that Traefik instance. The vulnerable component (Traefik's own dynamic configuration and routing control plane) and the impacted component (that same Traefik instance's routers and services) are one and the same, so Red Hat assesses Scope:Unchanged as the correct metric, consistent with the CNA's own re-scored vector rather than NIST's enrichment score. The CVSS score(s) listed for this vulnerability do not reflect the associated product's status, and are included for informational purposes to better understand the severity of this vulnerability.
