About this system

What the record says about the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, in its own words.

The Pi 4 is a generation behind the Pi 5 and does most of the same jobs more slowly. For work that spends its life waiting on a network or a sensor rather than on the processor, that difference does not show up.

Raspberry Pi builds this board until at least January 2034. The date is published rather than implied, and it is the reason to design a product around a Pi 4 instead of around whichever board is cheapest this quarter. Buying the same part in 2033 is worth more than a faster part today.

The 3 GB model is not a normal product. It exists because memory got expensive, so Raspberry Pi cut a size nobody had sold before to keep a board under what a 4 GB one now costs. Prices across this range are up roughly two to two and a half times since October 2025 on AI datacentre demand for memory, and Raspberry Pi has said in writing that they come back down when memory does.

Evidence

Runs the OS you build

Each row is a recorded observation, not a vendor promise. The evidence level says how far that observation was taken.

OpenFactory builds Raspberry Pi OS images for this platform. The desktop image wants 2 GB, so all three memory sizes here clear it.

Build the image you plan to run on console.openfactory.tech, boot it in a test machine there, and order this system once you have seen it work.
