About this system

What the record says about the Raspberry Pi 5 Edge Node, in its own words.

The Pi 5 is the board most people reach for when a job has to sit somewhere small and run Linux. It is quick enough for real work, it boots from an NVMe drive with the right adapter, and Raspberry Pi builds it until at least January 2036, so a product designed around it has a decade of supply behind it.

The 16 GB node is not a bare board resold. It is put together here from the board, the official 27W USB-C power supply, the official active cooler, the M.2 adapter and a 256 GB NVMe drive, with a PoE HAT so one cable carries power and network. The image you built is written to the drive before it ships, so it comes up configured on first boot. That configuration holds containers, a small cluster node, or a local database.

The 1 GB node is for the smaller job: a sensor gateway, a print server, a display driver, a VPN endpoint. It is the board and your image, written before it ships, without the power supply and cooler.
