openSUSE Leap

openSUSE Leap is the project's fixed-release distribution. Leap 16.0, released in October 2025, is based on SUSE Linux Enterprise 16.0 and uses the Agama installer; openSUSE documents a 24-month maintenance window for each minor release. Its enterprise-derived package foundation, zypper and RPM tooling, YaST components, and optional Btrfs snapshots make it distinct from the rolling Tumbleweed line. Available desktop and installation choices can change between releases, so consult the current release notes and installer rather than assuming an older Leap layout. Leap fits people who prefer planned point-release migrations over continuous rolling updates. An OpenFactory browser session is an evaluation environment, not evidence that a particular hardware or upgrade path is supported.
