Tails

Tails, The Amnesic Incognito Live System, is a Debian-based operating system with a single organizing principle: leave no trace. It runs exclusively as a live system from removable media, routes every network connection through the Tor anonymity network while blocking connections that would bypass it, and forgets everything at shutdown unless you deliberately create an encrypted Persistent Storage area. The desktop is a restrained GNOME setup bundling tools its audience needs, including the Tor Browser, encrypted password and messaging utilities, and software for handling sensitive documents. Journalists, activists, and abuse survivors are the archetypal users, and the project is developed in close association with the Tor Project. Tails is not meant to be installed, and its threat model shapes every default. An OpenFactory browser VM can demonstrate the desktop and workflow, though real anonymity requires booting genuine Tails media on hardware you trust.
