Its centerpiece is UKUI, a desktop environment developed by the Kylin team with a layout and visual language tuned for users accustomed to Windows conventions, complete with its own control panel and application suite. Localization goes beyond translation, covering Chinese input methods, fonts, calendar conventions, and integration with services common in China. The foundation is standard Ubuntu, sharing the archive, APT and deb packaging, and the April and October release cadence with long-term-support versions. UKUI itself has spread beyond this flavor and is packaged on other distributions as well. For users outside China, Ubuntu Kylin offers a look at how thoroughly a desktop can be regionalized.
